Planned Parenthood Locations

Welcome to our Planned Parenthood Locations website.  Here we take a look at the history and locations of Planned Parenthood and how it come to being.

Started in 1916, Planned Parenthood locations opened the doors as the United States first birth control center in Brooklyn New York. Margaret Sanger felt that the courage and tenacity of the American people and they were willing to fight for the health of women and their equality. As the founder of Planned Parenthood, Ms Sanders, her sister and a friend opened the clinic.

One must remember back in that ear women could not vote, hold bank accounts, sign any legal contracts nor divorce an abusive husband. Nor could they find any information about birth control without severe repercussions. In the 1870’s there were laws called the Comstock laws, which made it illegal and this denied women to seek help or information for planning a family. They felt that contraception was obscene and people should never know about it.

Thankfully for Mrs. Sanger’s efforts this is no longer the case. She would go on to provide information about planned parenthood locations, providing health services for new mothers, educating the public on the dangers of not taking vitamins, she also had a hand in funding research on birth control. Mrs. Sanger certainly had first hand knowledge in the matters of such stupidly among men not letting women learn about themselves and their bodies.

Her mother bore eleven children, but had eighteen pregnancies. She died at the age of forty in 1899, much too young to die. Mrs. Sanger worked with immigrant families in New York’s lower east side for many years and saw such sickness, misery and death that she vowed to do something about it. Illegal abortions were the norm and many women died from the result of them.

In 1966 Mrs. Sanger was awarded the PPFA Award and from then on it is named the PPFA Margaret Sanger Award, honoring her who founded the United States planning movement. Today Planned Parenthood locations will protect the encroachments against anyone getting into women’s records, not matter what, especially those of minors.
